About

October 26, 2011

The Let’s Have an Awesome Time Doing Science conference is a celebration of what we love about science – an opportunity to think and talk about how we can take joy in what we do, and how we can communicate that joy to the community.

Some topics of discussion will include:

* Taking care of our psychological well being: What makes you happy about being a scientist? (the answer isn’t the same for everyone!)

* Improving our sense of community: How can we communicate better amongst ourselves? How do we provide support to other scientists around us?

* Bringing science to the public: How does the public perceive the work we do?  How can we make science approachable and interactive for the non-scientist

Founded in 2009 by Liam Holt at UCSF, the symposium now takes place at UC Berkeley, Stanford and New York University

First talk is now online!

October 16, 2009

Well, we kind of cheated here, Pete Binfield of PLoS ONE already put up the talk he gave at LHAATDS under his own steam… nice work Pete! Here it is:

Peter Binfield Talk, “Let’s Have an Awesome Time Publishing Science”

Article level metrics are the future! Forrest Gump said, “Science publishing is currently like a box of variable quality chocolates… it would be better to know how good each chocolate is than restricting oneself to the shiniest box.”

Videos of the conference on their way!

October 15, 2009

We’re getting the videos the first LHAATDS conference ready. Check back soon to see if they’re posted. We plan on getting a good part of the material up online so that you can review it or watch it for the first time if you missed the event this year.
